I’ve simplified self-care 💆♀️
Let’s face it, self-care can feel like another chore on your already overflowing to-do list.
You know that you need to look after yourself, but there’s more urgent things on the agenda.
Face masks, meticulously crafted smoothie bowls, and hour-long yoga sessions – it all seems so aspirational and, frankly, exhausting.
It also doesn’t last beyond that moment?! You might feel more relaxed in the moment, but once it’s done, it’s done! And you’ve got to do it all over again, which doesn’t make much sense, right?
But here’s the good news: self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. I’m going to share with you how to create habits and tasks that nurture your mind, body, and soul without feeling like another burden.
So, ditch the self-care fads that don’t last and embrace these simple tips to make health and wellness a breeze.

When you’re thinking about self-care, don’t think about just switching off completely.
Think about the tasks and activities that you actually enjoy that benefit your mind, body and being. This is the release and relief that you’re going to benefit off of the most, long term.
These are some tiny adjustments for big results –
- Move your body
I didn’t say workout, I said move.
You don’t need a fancy gym membership to get your blood pumping. Walks, dancing, rock climbing, going to the park, online pilates – what ever! Just move every day to keep you mobile and free. - Sleep deeper
A good night’s sleep is the ultimate self-care superpower.
Making sure your bedroom is cool, dark and quiet, and shooting for 5-6 full sleep cycles per night (each cycle is 90mins).
Your evening routine makes for better sleep too (regardless of how many hours you actually get), so make sure those screens are off and you’ve journaled to get all those tasks off your mind. - Fuel the lifestyle
There’s no need to obsess over your calories.
Ditch the restrictive diets and focus on nourishing your body with real food. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein – these are your allies. No need to overcomplicate it; listen to your body’s hunger cues and enjoy your meals with ingredients that your grandparents would recognise. - Hydrate
Water is your BFF.
Carry a reusable water bottle with you and sip throughout the day. Slow and steady wins, rather than chugging when you realise how dehydrated you feel! Usually about 250ml per hour for the first 10 hours of your day (and also with meals) is a good place to start. Activity level and climate can shift your needs, but you’ll notice what you need once you start drinking consistently. - Digital detox
I know you know, BUT put down the phone!
Every time you pick it up, you should have a set task and purpose, so that you’re not mindlessly distracting yourself.
Chargers should not be right next to your bed either.
Immerse yourself in the real world, connect with loved ones face-to-face, or simply savor some quiet time. Your mind and eyes will thank you. - Nature is your therapy
This is one of the most powerful stress relievers. Go for a walk in the park, spend time in your backyard, open a window instead of aircon, or simply sit on a bench and soak up the sunshine. This habit can be enhanced if you focus on some breathing as well.
These 6 habits are the fundamentals and I will always look to one of these to bring my health back to basics and reset myself if I’m getting overwhelmed with life.
As you were reading those, I know there was one or two that you thought “oh shoot, I really need to do that”.
Focus on that one and you can gradually introduce the others.
BUT, I’ve got two more that don’t take any extra time!

These are the two habits that I find have the biggest impact on my mood and my energy.
Whenever I get in a funk, a feel like I need a break from the world, it’s usually because I’ve neglected one of these two.
They are –
- Mindfulness
The opposite of mindfulness is mindlessness, and that’s not a state I’d like to be in.
You don’t need hours of meditation to reap the benefits. Take a few deep breaths throughout the day, focus on the present moment, and acknowledge your surroundings, thoughts and feelings without judgment. - Be grateful
Appreciate the small things in your life.
Take a moment each day to reflect on the things you’re grateful for, big or small (even tiny works!). Shifting your focus to appreciation of what you do have, rather than what you don’t is a real skill, and the daily approach is the best way to go.
I know it sounds so simple and you’ve probably heard it a bazillion times before!
But that’s because they work.
Whenever you can, celebrate what you have in the world and live in the moment – I promise you’ll notice the difference!
